On September 28, 2023, the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce honored the Master’s thesis submitted by Fabian Rösner with the Hochschulpreis der Wirtschaft (University Award of Business), an award that acknowledges academic excellence relating to practice-driven theses. His thesis focused on the innovative issue of „Designing a Gas Pressure Control Valve Using a System Simulation to Verify the Function and Potential Control Performance.“ In its capacity as a collaborative member company of the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Thomas supported Fabian Rösner in successfully implementing this application-oriented project.
Hydrogen project at Thomas
Thomas is committed to pursuing various approaches to climate-friendly mobility. Fabian Rösner’s research topic stemmed from his participation in a joint project known as WaVe, initiated by CVC Südwest and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The name of the project, WaVe, stands for the development and prototype testing of hydrogen combustion engines as carbon-neutral drive systems for commercial vehicles in the medium-duty segment. Fabian Rösner addressed the issue of developing and designing a gas pressure control valve for the application of hydrogen gas with the aid of simulations.

Hochschulpreis der Wirtschaft
The Hochschulpreis der Wirtschaft (University Award of Business) presented by the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce was established for the purpose of promoting cooperation between companies, universities, and research institutes in the region. These collaborative efforts are meant to help meet today’s challenges and ensure prosperity through the transfer of knowledge between academia and business.
At the time of the Master’s thesis, Fabian Rösner had already been employed as a Development Engineer at Thomas for seven years. He joined Thomas in 2015 as a specialist intern and also completed his Bachelor’s thesis at the company, which was acknowledged in the form of a Hochschulpreis der Wirtschaft commendation. The topic of sustainable fuels was of such interest to him that he took the opportunity to devote his Master’s thesis at Thomas to the sub-aspect of hydrogen. With success: he turned theory into practice and came up with a functional prototype of a gas pressure control valve. His Master’s thesis, which is particularly demanding from an academic point of view, takes a practical approach to an innovative issue of relevance to the company. In addition, the outcome for Thomas was forward-looking and of use in a practical context. His Master’s thesis thus fully met the criteria of the Hochschulpreis der Wirtschaft. „I am delighted to receive this award in recognition of my Master’s thesis. My thanks go to my colleagues and Thomas as well as to the University of Siegen, whose support made this successful result possible,“ said Fabian Rösner.
