Good news for Thomas: for the third time, health management at the family-run company was awarded Gold Standard status as a „Healthy Company“ on January 27, 2023.

Occupational health management has long been of key importance to Thomas. In 2008, Germany’s inspection association TÜV Saarland – working in cooperation with health insurer AOK Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland – introduced a service that covers the certification of companies‘ occupational health management (OHM) on the basis of uniform nationwide quality standards. Thomas was among the first to take part in the certification process. The aim is to provide motivation in the area of OHM and to embrace continuous improvement through Bronze, Silver, and Gold ratings. The rationale behind the award is also to raise public awareness when it comes to the important topic of health management.

„We offered a number of health-related activities for our employees over the course of 2022 – and at last we were able to organize them as in-person events again,“ says Jessica Kasperlik. From May to August, 112 employees took part in the „Cycle to Work“ campaign. Fit as a fiddle, a total of 28 runners joined the company run in Siegen in June. Boasting a group of 44 sports enthusiasts, Thomas was the team with the most entrants at the Westerwald company run. Throughout the year, the company offered various health-related activities centered around the topic of „Lebe Balance“ („Embrace Balance“) as well as the „Sucht“ („Addiction“) seminar for managers with HR responsibilities. The Thomas Health Day took place on October 4, 2022: it featured a workshop on wild herbs and a cardio check, in addition to information booths organized by Thomas cooperation partners and Thomas vocational trainees. The latter presented a project they had been working on: a blender mechanically driven by a bicycle. Fill it with fruit and create a delicious smoothie using nothing but muscle power!

Thomas meets all the requirements stipulated for „Healthy Company“ certification: HR Manager Jessica Kasperlik is responsible for coordinating the execution of necessary measures; the „Arbeitskreis Gesundheit“ („Health Working Group“) forms the steering committee of decision-makers; the various risk assessments are carried out and documented by the Occupational Safety Officer. Gold certification is valid for two years, after which recertification can take place.
