This time it’s a completely new topic: Rufus talks to Virginie Cuadrado Puerto about German Medical Engineering, or GME for short. The company specializes in the development of professional therapeutic light and laser systems for the treatment of skin diseases, among other things. Thomas recently took over the company and Virginie accompanied the entire process as Director Market and Product Management Healthcare Solutions
In the podcast, she reveals how Thomas discovered the healthcare market as a third pillar some time ago. How she joined the company four years ago to help develop “Carefil”, Thomas‘ enteral feeding pump. And she explains why it was right to put “Carefil” on ice and buy GME instead: “Entering the market as a nobody in the healthcare sector is not easy,” she says. “In the end, we had to realize that it was a great product, but it wasn’t suitable as the basis for a third pillar for Thomas.”
The purchase of GME is completely different: GME can not only develop medical technology. It can produce them in series, is familiar with regional approvals and has already made a name for itself. With Thomas at its side, the small company now has the opportunity to expand its product range, grow internationally and develop into a strong pillar of the Group.
When Virginie talks, you can tell that medical technology is her thing. The Frenchwoman also has Spanish citizenship and lives with her family in Munich. She has worked for manufacturers of feeding pumps, infusion technology and heart-lung machines and loves her job. Here she can contribute to “improving the lives of patients, helping people.” That’s why she fits in so well with Thomas – after all, “helping” is one of the company’s values. And at Thomas, they don’t just write it on the wall, they live it. „I experience that every day. Respect in our dealings, openness, no retention of information.“ She is happy to make the regular trips from Munich to Herdorf – 520 kilometers one-way – for this working environment, she says.
If you want to know more: There are lots more details about the purchase of GME in the podcast. You can also find out more about Virginie’s background and healthcare at Thomas. And, of course, how Virginie feels about snacks. We can promise you one thing: It won’t be boring!
