Between the side and production line

#016 Snackbox with Heiko Schnell

Snackbox is back! In the first episode after the winter break, Heiko Schnell takes a seat in the Snackbox and answers questions about his career and his work as Director Value Stream 1 at the Rennerod site.

Thomas bought the plant in Rennerod a few years ago and completely renovated it in order to set up fully automated production. Heiko is responsible for production management and service there. His mission – and that of his 115-person team – is to ensure the efficiency, quality and productivity of the systems. Because in Rennerod, Thomas produces around 280,000 proportional solenoids every week, among other things, which enable the shifting process in automatic gearboxes for a major German car manufacturer.

Heiko’s answers show just how precisely and quickly production has to take place, as well as another fact: automated production lines also require teamwork. And that’s where Heiko is in his element. He played soccer from the age of five. At the age of twenty, he put his cleats aside and got his coaching license. After a short break, he plans to return to the coaching zone soon.

According to the convinced team player, sport has taught him something important: that you win together and lose together. That a team has to work on itself and needs leadership.

Heiko has continuously worked on himself, as his career shows. After finishing secondary school, he trained as a tool mechanic. He later went to evening school to become a mechanical engineering technician. Before joining Thomas in 2018, he was responsible for setting up production lines at a special machine manufacturer, among other things. He feels completely at home at Thomas. Because of the work, but also because of the open interaction with each other and the way in which the company values of “honesty”, “courage” and “helping” are lived.

If you want to know what Heiko does in his free time or if you want to find out more about semi-automatic and fully automatic production in Rennerod: Just listen in!
